As an Edinburgh artist I enjoy easy access to our coasts and islands, particularly the Highlands of Scotland. The hidden away lochs with deep peaty coloured water and beautiful, often deserted Scottish beaches has been my inspiration for this exhibition.
Ripples caused by tossing a pebble into these watery gems, resulting in rings spreading out over the water. Sunlight peeking through the scudding clouds, catching the light, offers an interplay of gold for the viewer to enjoy. Walking along the beach, long strands of seaweed, strewn randomly, provides further inspiration in terms of linear forms and unique colour combinations.
My technique involves applying inks from a palette of cool, calming colours - with a dash of metallic to catch the light. Each piece is then coated with resin to give it a glassy finish. The random nature of working with inks applied using processes in a controlled environment lies at the heart of my practice.
I hope you enjoy viewing this work as much as I enjoyed creating it.
